At the conclusion of the 2024 season, Lewis Hamilton and the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team will part ways. Lewis’s contract, which was revealed in August of last year, has a release option; therefore, he will not be driving for the Silver Arrows again after this season.
With the release of this announcement, Mercedes-Benz’s 17-year Formula One alliance and the works team’s 11-year partnership come to an end.
The CEO and team principal, Toto Wolff, stated: “We can look back on our partnership with Lewis with pride as it has become the most successful team-driver combo the sport has ever seen; Lewis will always be a key part of Mercedes motorsport history.” But we always knew that eventually our collaboration would come to an end, and that time has now arrived. We respect Lewis’s choice to go for a new challenge, and it’s thrilling to think about what lies ahead for us. For the time being, though, we still have one season left, and our goal is to finish strong in 2024 by going racing.
“I have had a great 11 years with this team, and I’m very pleased with what we have accomplished together,” Lewis Hamilton continued. Since I was thirteen years old, Mercedes has been a part of my life. It was one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make to leave, as it is a place where I have grown up. However, I feel that now is the appropriate moment for me to make this move, and I’m eager to start a new adventure. I want to end on a positive note with my Mercedes family, and I will always be incredibly thankful to Toto for his friendship and leadership. I’m fully committed to giving this season’s performance my all and making it an unforgettable final season with the Silver Arrows.
