Kirby Smart’s staff reveals two departures, and Georgia names a new coordinator for special teams.

ATHENS, Georgia (AP) Head coach Kirby Smart revealed further staff changes on Wednesday, and one of those changes is the new special teams coordinator for the Georgia Bulldogs.

In place of Scott Cochran, Kirk Benedict, who worked as a special teams analyst for the previous two seasons, has been promoted.

Both Cochran and offensive analyst Darrell Dickey left to take advantage of other possibilities, according to Smart.

In 2020, Cochran—a former strength coach at Alabama—moved to Georgia to take a job as an on-field coach.He took a mental health leave of absence prior to the 2021 season, and he returned to Smart’s staff following the first seven games of that campaign.

After serving as Texas A&M’s offensive coordinator for five years, 64-year-old Dickey spent one season at Georgia. He was North Texas’s head coach for a while.

In a statement, Smart said, I want to thank Scott and Darrell for their services to Georgia football. We’re hoping for the best for them going forward.

The Bulldogs just underwent a round of coaching changes.Co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp went down to an analyst position in order to spend more time with his family, and defensive backs coach Fran Brown left to take a position as head coach at Syracuse.
