The Dolphins hired Joe Barry, a former defensive coordinator for the Packers.

The Miami Dolphins have hired Joe Barry as their new linebacker coach. Barry most recently served as the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers for three seasons.

Green Bay, Wisconsin: Former defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers, Joe Barry, was up and running in no time.

Barry will serve as the Miami Dolphins’ defensive run-game coordinator and linebackers coach, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

After the season-ending loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Packers coach Matt LaFleur made the decision to bench Barry in favor of former Boston College coach Jeff Hafley.

Barry will take Anthony Campanile’s place in Miami. Campanile was a candidate for the defensive coordinator position with the New York Giants and, strangely enough, is also thought to be a contender to succeed Hafley at Boston College.

The Packers finished 30th with 4.7 yards allowed per carry and 26th with 125.6 rushing yards allowed per game during Barry’s three years in Green Bay. In 2023, the Packers gave up more than 200 rushing yards in four games, which was a league-worst.

But that was with the defensive coordinator, Barry. In 2000, they were third in terms of rushing yards allowed per game and per attempt while serving as the Rams’ linebackers coach.

Barry served as the defensive coordinator for Green Bay from 2021 to 2023. In 2021, his defense finished ninth in yards and 13th in points; in 2022, they finished 17th in yards and 17th in points; and in 2023, they finished 10th in yards and 17th in points. The team’s second top-10 point result in 2023 since winning the Super Bowl was achieved.

After the Packers narrowly defeated the incompetent Carolina Panthers in December and were humiliated by Baker Mayfield and the Buccaneers, tensions on the hot seat increased. But the defense rallied in the latter stages, just as it had in 2022.

In order to qualify for the playoffs, the Packers gave up 10 points at Minnesota and 9 points against Chicago. They then dominated the first half of their playoff blowout of Dallas.

A few days later, Barry remarked, That’s the gauntlet of an NFL football season. I mention that, particularly to numerous inexperienced coaches.

You will undoubtedly encounter both the greatest highs and, regrettably, the lowest lows if you stay in this thing long enough. That is a requirement for applying to the National Football League. It’s a condition of the agreement.

The Packers led 21-14 after three quarters and 7-6 at the half in their divisional playoff loss to San Francisco, ultimately falling short 24-21.

His defense went conservative, as was all too frequently the case under Barry, when it was time to get a stop, period. Brock Purdy led a 12-play, 69-yard touchdown drive with a trip to the NFC Championship Game at stake.

Hafley is the new defensive coordinator and defensive line coach for the Packers. Position coaches for linebackers and cornerbacks are among the open positions on the new staff.
