Prior to making his competitive comeback at the 2023 Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington, Grigor Dimitrov was recently photographed vacationing in Italy with girlfriend Madalina Ghenea.
The last time we saw Dimitrov compete was during the Wimbledon Championships. The Bulgarian, who finished in the semifinals in 2014, made it to the fourth round this year, but lost to Holger Rune in four sets, 3-6, 7-6(6), 7-6(4), 6-3.
Before the North American hardcourt season, the 2017 Cincinnati Masters champion then enjoyed his free time with his girlfriend, Romanian actress and model Madalina Ghenea. Recently, the couple was seen having a PDA-filled day in Italy, the home of the “House of Gucci” star.
While the couple walked the red carpet at the Marateale Festival, Grigor Dimitrov and Madalina Ghenea were also photographed together at the Hotel Santa Venere in Marateea, Italy. After the Romanian actress received an award at the event, the tennis player applauded her.
Since early this year, Dimitrov—who has dated a number of well-known figures in the past, including Maria Sharapova and Nicole Scherzinger of Pussycat Dolls—has been dating Ghenea.
The Romanian has dated actors including Michael Fassbender, Gerard Butler, and Leonard DiCaprio in the past. Additionally, she and Romanian millionaire Matei Stratan have a six-year-old daughter.
At the Madrid Open, Ghenea made her public debut alongside Dimitrov by attending the Bulgarian player’s third-round match against Carlos Alcaraz.
The couple hasn’t held back from declaring their love and respect for one another since. Madalina Ghenea praised the eventual runner-up in multiple heartfelt social media messages during the former World No. 3’s route to the Geneva Open final.
Moreover, the Romanian was seen supporting Grigor Dimitrov during the French Open. The last time Ghenea was spotted in Dimitrov’s player’s box was at the Wimbledon Championships.
Ahead of the US Open, Grigor Dimitrov returns to the top 20 in the ATP rankings.
At the Wimbledon Championships, Grigor Dimitrov made his second week appearance and rose to his season-high ranking of World No. 20.
This season, the player has recorded 23 victories and 13 defeats. His second-place finish at the Geneva Open has been his greatest performance to date.
In addition, he has advanced to the Queen’s Club Championships, the quarterfinals in Marseille, and the semifinals in Rotterdam.
The Bulgarian will now play his first hardcourt tournament in North America on July 31–August 6 at the Mubadala Citi DC Open in Washington.
According to his official social media account, Dimitrov has already arrived at the tournament venue after his brief travel to Italy.
