Holger Rune’s coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, begins the clay season with a rigorous practice session at the Monte Carlo Masters in 2024.
It’s finally time for the clay-court season, following three exciting months of hard-court tennis. Fans have had the good fortune to watch some exciting tennis play in recent months. Things will only get more intense as the clay-court season draws to an end. Patrick Mouratoglou, the coach of Holger Rune, formally welcomed this time of year ahead of the impending competitions on home soil.
Rune and Mouratoglou just teamed up, following their own sagas. As news of Simona Halep’s doping scandal dominated Mouratoglou’s life, Rune made headlines following his breakup with trainers Boris Becker and Severin Luthi. The coach is eager to have things going well ahead of the clay season.

A few hours ago, Mouratoglou posted glimpses of himself kicking off the clay season on his official Instagram feed. He was spotted with players like Holger Rune and Novak Djokovic, who started their training here before a demanding season. With a photo of himself and his teammates, Mouratoglou said, “Clay season is officially opened!”
He was at Monte Carlo before this week’s first Masters 1000 competition on clay. Rune will try to get past his Sunshine Double setback, while Novak Djokovic will return to action following his absence from the Miami Open.
After Rune broke up with Severin Luthi and Boris Becker earlier this year, the two teamed up. But things haven’t gone well for them together, as Rune has battled in Miami and Indian Wells. His time in Miami came to an end in the second round, but he was eliminated from the Indian Wells Masters in the quarterfinals. However, Mouratoglou is eager to collaborate with him and has faith in Rune’s ability to succeed.
