The documentary, which debuted in July 2023 on ITVX, included never-before-seen personal and family archives together with exclusive interviews with others who knew the three-time Wimbledon champion.
At the tender age of 17, Boris Becker made history in the tennis world in 1985 by becoming the youngest-ever Wimbledon men’s singles champion.
In addition to winning two Australian Open championships and one US Open championship, he went on to earn the honor three times.
However, the tennis player’s life fell apart when he was sentenced to prison in April 2022 for concealing £2.5 million in debts and assets that he was expected to declare.
Becker was given a 30-month sentence for his actions, although he was only released after serving just eight months.
German tennis player Boris Franz Becker, 54, was once ranked #1 in the world.
At the age of seventeen in 1985, he became the youngest winner of the gentlemen’s singles Wimbledon Championships in history.
Regarded as one of the all-time greats in tennis, Becker was included in Tennis Magazine’s 40 greatest players list in 2006, the year of the publication’s 40th anniversary.
Boris Becker was sentenced to prison in April 2022 for concealing loans and assets worth £2.5 million that he was supposed to declare.
According to the Insolvency Act, the Grand Slam winner was found guilty of four offenses.
The main focus of the lawsuit was Becker’s bankruptcy in 2017 as a result of an overdue debt of more than £3 million on his opulent Mallorca, Spain estate.
As a bankrupt, Becker owed creditors close to £50 million, therefore he was legally had to transfer all of his assets with his trustee in order for them to get the available monies.
But he withheld, hid, and took substantial assets from his Trustee in Bankruptcy and the Official Receiver. Among the assets hidden were 75,000 shares in a software business and his portion of a property in Leiman, Germany.
Becker was found guilty on two counts of failing to disclose estate, one count of removal of property, and one count of concealing debt in his trial in 2022.
Nine counts of neglecting to turn over his tennis trophies and medals were among the additional twenty accusations on which the jury found him not guilty.
He received a sentence of thirty months in jail on April 29, 2022. Prior to being moved to HM Prison Huntercombe, a facility for the detention of foreign nationals, he was taken to HM Prison Wandsworth.
On December 15, 2022, he was freed from prison after serving eight and a half months.
After the new program on ITVX aired, rumors circulated that Becker had asked his fiancée to marry him.
Becker was extremely thankful to Lilian for staying with him through ‘the hardest time’ of his life, according to sources close to the pair.
Becker entered the punditry after being released from prison, frequently sharing his thoughts on Eurosport. He watched the events in the Australian Open 2024 in the last few days.
In the past, he said that being imprisoned humbled him and added, I’m a tough cookie; I’m a survivor. I accepted my imprisonment, but I also accepted the honor, and if anything, it strengthened and improved me as a man.
