Daniil Medvedev speaks out after demanding an apology from Holger Rune in the Indian Wells spat.
Daniil Medvedev gave Holger Rune a cold handshake and asked him to talk to him in the locker room.
After getting into a heated argument with Holger Rune during their Indian Wells match, Daniil Medvedev has made his voice known. When Rune threw a ball at him during a rally, World No. 4 wasn’t pleased.
After punching him during their quarterfinal match at Indian Wells on Thursday, Medvedev was incensed that Rune had not offered an apology.
The ball was then returned by world No. 7 straight into Medvedev’s torso. Medvedev was left waiting for an apology at the net when Rune made a winning shot to claim the point, despite the Russian managing to get his racket on it in some way.
After ultimately winning 7–5, 6-4, Medvedev faced Rune at the net. The Russian added, “I didn’t hear you say sorry. If you want, we can talk about this in the locker room.”
When asked if he had an opportunity to talk to the Dane following what seemed to be a misunderstanding, Medvedev answered, “100%, sure.”
“The wonderful things we experienced will eventually be forgotten by everyone. It is what it is, really. It’s fortunate that the events on the court were, for the most part, concluded.
Prior to discovering that Rune had immediately issued an apology, the former world No. 1 acknowledged going “mad.” “I was ignorant of that. I go insane; I become furious.”
After swiftly putting the spat to rest, Medvedev will now focus on Tommy Paul, the opponent he will face in the semifinal.
