Jannik Sinner wins over Holger Rune and moves on to the Monte Carlo semifinals………..

As Jannik Sinner advances to the semifinals of Monte Carlo, he defeats Holger Rune. The world No. 2 advanced into his third consecutive Masters 1000 semifinal in three sets with a cool-headed display against the occasionally feisty Dane.

At the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters, Jannik Sinner displayed maturity by winning 6-4, 6-7 (6), 6-3 over adversary Holger Rune despite lost his opening set of the week. This victory moved Sinner closer to his third consecutive Masters 1000 semifinal.

In 2024, after two hours and forty-nine minutes on Court Rainier III, the No. 2 seed defeated Rune for the second time in a row, earning him scorn from the crowd for his alleged on-court antics. The match ended with a score of 25-1.

Rune led the match going into the second quarterfinal of the day, but Sinner, who has won 24-1 in his first five tournaments, is the player who is most in form this season. Sinner won the most recent match at the Nitto ATP Finals.

The world No. 2 had yet to lose a set in Monte Carlo, having lost a total of nine games to Jan-Lennard Struff and Sebastian Korda.

Rune, on the other hand, has failed to live up to the high bar he frequently established the previous season in 2024, losing in the second round of both the Australian Open and the Miami Open—tournaments that Sinner eventually won.

The 20-year-old, who made it to the Monte Carlo final last year and defeated Sinner along the way, had to play double duty when rain postponed his match against Sumit Nagal in the second round.

Rune went on to win in three sets against the Indian trailblazer, then extended his lead against Grigor Dimitrov by saving two match points to beat the Miami Open finalist in a third-set tiebreaker on Thursday night as the sun was setting.

The No. 7 seed, who is also still alive in doubles with Taylor Fritz, gave Sinner a great fight despite the short turnaround; the opening set was decided by just one break.

At crucial moments, the Italian appeared as proficient as ever, hitting about equal numbers of winners to unintentional mistakes, whereas Rune took more chances but also committed more errors—eleven of them.
