Holger Rune losing a point unsettles him, and he hammers the ATP Tour.
Following his loss to Yannik Sinner on the ATP Tour, Holger Rune has resorted to social media to criticize the organizers for not providing him with an advantage prior to his matchup with the last eight.
Holger Rune has been critical of the ATP Tour on social media, claiming, among other things, that they have not given him enough time to recover from the Monte Carlo Masters.
The best players in the world have traveled to Monaco, with favorites Yannik Sinner and Rune. Against Rune, the seventh seed, the Australian Open champion—currently ranked No. 2 in the world—lost. He took their round of sixteen match in three sets.
Rune, however, was obviously irritated with the expectations put on him during the competitions because he played twice in a short period of time, giving him little opportunity to get ready for Sinner. The umpire’s call for a code violation and the crowd’s jeers caused the young Dane to lose his cool as well.
The official ATP Tour Twitter account shared footage of Jannick Sinner making it 0-30 on Rune’s serve at 5-5 in the second set with an amazing forehand winner. Rune was not pleased with the caption, which said, “May the force be with you.”
“Meaning what, @atptour?” he replied. It’s not like you offered me the finest circumstances to begin with—having to play two matches in one day and finish late, which left me with very little time to recover. The chair umpire disrupted the game by making critical errors and issuing incorrect warnings. I hope the power is with you. Christ Jesus.”
After receiving a time violation, Rune responded sarcastically, which put him at odds with the crowd. After indicating with a gesture that the spectators were spouting gibberish, he ran afoul of the umpire.
The Dane thought the code violation wasn’t justified, so he was upset about it. Then, regretting the umpire’s call, he insisted on discussing it with the supervisor.
