After losing to an opponent in the Miami Open 2024, Holger Rune shares a difficult and depressing moment.
In his debut encounter in China, Holger Rune won 6-4 6-4 against Felix Auger Aliassime at the Beijing ATP 500.
Rune had not played since the US Open in late August and had not won a major since his arrival in Asia at Wimbledon, so he was not having fun.
The 20-year-old made an incredible comeback at the Olympic Green Tennis Center in Beijing, defeating the Canadian despite recently battling physical issues.
Rune discussed this in a later interview, saying, “It was a beautiful feeling.” I’m relieved to be feeling better again because I was struggling with both my physical health and the conditions of the matches.
On and off the court, my mental health is good. I’m happy with how I performed today.
Rune’s back problem also kept him from participating in the Laver Cup, where his European side suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the World squad.
He exclaimed, “I felt amazing.” Nothing was happening to my body. That’s really good. I don’t mind sore muscles, but since I’m too young to be dealing with these kinds of problems, it’s fantastic to feel good on the court.
I’m healthy, I take good care of my body, and I enjoy playing without pain.
With a record of 38 wins and 17 losses at the end of 2023, the Dane is currently rated fourth in the world, which is a career best.
After defeating the 15th-ranked player in the world, Holger is currently on a roll in Beijing. 6-4 6-4 Felix Aliassime Auger.
Holger Rune will play Grigor Dimitrov, the 19th-ranked player in the world, on Sunday at 7:30 p.m. on DIAMOND in the second round. At the moment, Rune has a perfect 1-0 record.
The Dane won one title in Munich in 2023. At the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters and the Internazionali BNL d’Italia in Rome, Holger came in second.
The Dane won four trophies in his career, two on clay courts and two on indoor courts.(See his list of titles.)
He’s also scheduled to play the Stockholm Open in Stockholm after Shanghai. October 4th is when the main draw will start.
Holger Rune, the Danish tennis prodigy who was hailed as the sport’s future, has been having difficulty lately due to several early eliminations in events, like as the China Open, where he only succeeded in making it past the first round once.
Rune’s once-promising season took a turn for the worse following Wimbledon, as a succession of first-round losses became the norm.
The young player had demonstrated promise early in the year by reaching the final stages of prestigious competitions such as the Monte Carlo Masters and the Italian Open. Rune hasn’t been able to go past the opening round of the competition, though, since Wimbledon.
After withdrawing from the China Open, Rune—who is currently ranked fourth in the ATP rankings—came clean and blamed his lackluster performance on nagging injuries.
He said that during the clay season, he was unable to play at his best due to a pinch in the fifth lumbar vertebra of the spine, or the L5 nerve.
Rune pledged to overcome these health issues and get back to his peak performance, underscoring his determination to put things right.
The injury has significantly limited his abilities; he can no longer earn important free points, and his serve speed has altered.
Owing to injuries that cut short his most recent tour, the Danish star was forced to withdraw from events like the Laver Cup.
Rune’s tenacious efforts to address his health problems demonstrate his commitment to returning to peak performance and realizing his potential on the tennis court.
