“It would have been a different narrative by now if David Benavidez had been with me at Golden Boy,” De la Hoya stated in an interview with ABN Sports Media.
“We would have thrashed the drums earlier, accompanied David to Mexico, confronted Canelo, and pounded on doors.”
What makes Canelo Alvarez want to avoid a bout with Benavidez?
Golden Boy admitted that Canelo is unwilling to fight Benavidez because of the exorbitant fee he demanded in order to seal the deal:
“I believe a boxer is not interested in fighting if he sets a high price for a battle. The basic line is that,” he continued. “I don’t know how the WBC permitted that, considering Benavidez has long been the required opponent.”
