Jannik Sinner Wins Australian Open for First Slam Title

He fell against Carlos Alcaraz 1-6, 6-3, 6-2 on Saturday in the BNP Paribas Open semifinals, ending his 9-match winning streak.

Sinner, though, had no desire to go back on his amazing hot streak, which had featured a 16-0 record in 2024 until Saturday’s outcome. Rather, during his news conference following the match, the third-ranked player in the world was focused on the upcoming challenge: the Miami Open, which is the second of two consecutive Masters 1000 events.

I’M FOCUSED ALREADY FOR MIAMI.

Sinner responded, “I don’t think so much about that,” when asked if he was pleased with the winning run. “Well, I’ve been positive throughout this winning run — positive even today, considering that I lost in the Indian Wells semifinals, which is still a good outcome.

“Now, Miami is the upcoming competition. I’m therefore ready for Miami. It’s unfortunate that things have to finish here, as this is a very unique spot for me to play. However, I’m appreciative of what I’m doing.

Sinner has been doing some really amazing things. The Italian is currently riding high form, having finished second in the Nitto ATP Finals, winning the Davis Cup, the Australian Open, and the Rotterdam Open. He has now gone 29-2 in his previous 31 matches.

SINNER HOPES TO BE READY FOR SECOND LEG OF SUNSHINE DOUBLE

Sinner will not add to his collection of trophies from Indian Wells, but if he stays fit, he will want to improve on his 2023 performance in Miami by defeating Daniil Medvedev in the championship match. The 22-year-old manifested some physical difficulties in the third set against Carlos Alcaraz, repeatedly extending what appeared to be a calf problem. He also appeared to have suffered damage to his left elbow after a tumble.

Sinner stated, “For me personally, the most important thing is to see if I will be good for Miami physically in the coming days.”

I can feel almost everything on my body right now. Yet it’s expected; this is sports. This is something you have to accept. I had a few little issues, but other than that, everything went well until the third set. I then felt my elbow a little bit when I landed since I rolled over and fell over the elbow. Thus, it was difficult for me to serve after that. I found the third set to be difficult.
