Miami Open 2024
During their Miami Open match, Serena Williams expressed her desire to have Jannik Sinner‘s forehand.
During her most recent trip to Miami, Williams had meetings with both Sinner and Grigor Dimitrov, the man facing him on Sunday.
Serena Williams has firsthand experience of winning the Miami Open. Will Jannik Sinner be able to do that this week with the blessing of the former world No. 1?
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion was back in the men’s semifinals on Friday, having visited the tournament earlier in the first week to watch her sister Venus Williams play. She was full of praise for the Australian Open champion after he defeated Daniil Medvedev 6-1, 6-2 in a rematch of their exhausting five-set final at the year’s first major.
According to the ATP website, Williams said to Sinner, “I wish I hit my forehand like that.” I was astounded by the racquet’s power and speed, stating, “Wow, it’s like night and day.” You’re amazing. Congratulations on Australia.
Williams had an especially strong record at the MiamI Open, where she made eight tournament appearances at the tournament’s former site in Key Biscayne and won eight titles, a tournament record.
Sinner, who placed second in both 2021 and 2023, is hoping that his third trip to the championship on Sunday in Miami will be fortunate.
However, the Italian is not the only competitor in the men’s singles championship match on Sunday who will be hoping that a bit more luck comes from a brush with greatness.
During her visit, Grigor Dimitrov, his opponent, also had the opportunity to reunite with Williams. Cameras saw the two of them chatting, grinning, and giving each other a big hug backstage at Hard Rock Stadium.
The Bulgarian called Williams “amazing” in his post-match press conference following his semifinal victory over Alexander Zverev. The two have been friends for a long time.
“We maintain communication. We almost always talk to each other. “I’m going to come watch,” she said,” stated Dimitrov. “Having a friend like him in your corner is always really humbling, and I believe we had a brief conversation before the game.
She was actually present when I achieved my first Top 10 victory, as I recall. It was a very pleasant occasion. I believe we both recall that.
“Dude, it’s friendship. This is the best portion, in my opinion. Although tennis is tennis, let’s face it—right now, we are all living our dreams. After all these years, I believe that the real life starts then, and that is how we have remained such close and wonderful friends.
And once more, to have someone who actually played tennis to lean on, to share ideas and opinions with, and occasionally even to vent on? It is quite beneficial.
