Breaking news: Tallon Griekspoor coach, Kristof Vliegen, could be sacked after making a ‘sincere’ Jannik Sinner ad…

At Hard Rock Stadium, Jannik Sinner overcame Tallon Griekspoor 5-7 7-5 6-1 after trailing by one set to get to the Miami Open third round.

Rain pulled the players off the court while Griekspoor was leading 7-5 3-3, but Sinner improved to complete a hard-fourth victory after two hours and twenty-three minutes of play.

In the fourth game of the first set, Sinner received the first break point but failed to convert it.

Sinner dropped just two points in his first five service games, but Griekspoor won four of his six points on return in the 11th game of the opening set to take the first break of the match, 6-5. Griekspoor used two aces to win four straight games after behind 0–30 to win the opening set 7–5.

In the opening game of the second set, Sinner overcame a 0–30 deficit to hold serve, and in his subsequent two service games, he held serve to love. Although Griekspoor did not receive a break point, rain stopped play after the sixth game.

Sinner gained a set point on return at 5-4 after the game resumed, but he failed to convert it. At 6-5, Griekspoor managed to stave off another set point. After Griekspoor made a forehand error, Sinner broke serve on his third set point to win the second set 7–5, sending the match to the third set.

After two hours and thirteen minutes, Sinner ended the third set with a hold to love. She had broken twice in the second and sixth games. The 2024 Australian Open winner improved his head-to-head lead against the Dutch player to 4-0 by winning 10 of the 13 games during the rain delay. This season, Sinner has an 18-1 record.

Either USA’s Martin Damm or Australia’s Christopher O’Connell will square off against Sinner.

Even the first set, in my opinion, was really close, but it ended. I believe that today I was in a tough situation because I made a mental effort to remain strong, which I did. I made an effort to return a little more forcefully after the rain, which I accomplished, and I’m obviously really thrilled about it. For me, it has been a difficult day. However, I am quite pleased with the outcome,” Sinner remarked.
