Just in: “I am not selfish.”-Jannik Sinner ”very upset” with Carlos Alcaraz’s shocking claims after knocking him off No 1 spot in…

Jannik Sinner

Carlos Alcaraz may be ranked at No 3 in the official ATP Rankings, but he has leapt to the top of another rankings list after his stunning win at Wimbledon.

Alcaraz destroyed Novak Djokovic 6-2 6-2 7-6(4) in the Wimbledon final. His performance on Centre Court left little doubt as to why he has now advanced a few spots above the elderly 24-time Grand Slam champion. Alcaraz was in incredible form.

His victory at Wimbledon followed up his stunning victory in the Paris final of the French Open last month over Alexander Zverev.

Alcaraz has now been ranked as the new number one by the UTR rankings following a phenomenal summer of play that saw him bring his total number of Grand Slam victories to four at the young age of 21.

Jannik Sinner has been surpassed by Alcaraz at the top of the UTR Rating list, with Djokovic dropping to third following his Wimbledon setback.

And it’s obvious that the young Spanish player isn’t content to sit back and enjoy his success since he wants to be counted among the greatest players of all time, alongside Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, and Roger Federer.

Alcaraz remarked, “Obviously, I’m off to a really great start in my career, but I have to keep going and keep creating my path.”

“I want to be seated at the same table as the big guys when my career comes to an end.” That’s what I want most. I’m currently dreaming of that. Even if, at age 21, I had already won four grand slams, it makes no difference. It doesn’t matter if I stop competing in these competitions.

“I’m not sure what my limit is. I’d rather not give it any thought. All I want is to continue living in the now and dreaming. So let’s see if it will be 25, 30, 15, or 4 at the conclusion of my career.

On the UTR Rating list, Casper Ruud of Norway is ranked fourth, followed by Alexander Zverev of Germany in fifth and the rapidly rising Australian Alex de Minaur in sixth.

Daniil Medvedev, who made it to the Wimbledon semi-finals, is currently ranked ninth, just below Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece.

Surprisingly, Nick Kyrgios is ranked 13th in the UTR Rating despite only participating in one tournament since the beginning of 2023 because of an injury.

The UTR Rating, formerly known as the Universal Tennis Rating, is a global rating system that encourages equitable and competitive play throughout the tennis globe. It was developed by UTR Sports (formerly known as Universal Tennis) and is supported by Novak Djokovic.

It goes beyond just a simple ranking system. Based on real-world match results, all players are evaluated on a uniform scale ranging from 1.00 to 16.50, irrespective of their age, gender, location, or skill level.

The system determines a match rating and a match weight for every participant for every match that is played.

The match rating is determined by taking into account two factors. The first factor is the variation in opponents’ UTR Ratings. The match’s competitiveness, as indicated by the percentage of total games won, is the second consideration.

Based on the variation in UTR Rating, the algorithm anticipates winning a specific proportion of all games.

The match rating of the player that outperforms the algorithm will rise, while the match rating of the other player will fall. The match rating of each player drops by the same amount when the match rating of one player rises.
