Just in: ‘Its mine to keep.’ -Jannik Sinner reveals secret to keeping No. 1 spot ahead of ‘worst enemy’ Carlos Alcaraz after…

In June, Sinner became the number one player and has remained there ever since.

The 22-year-old Italian player believes he knows exactly how he will maintain his No. 1 ranking in the world for the foreseeable future. He feels the secret is to always aim to stay one step ahead of the competition and to keep growing.

Sinner appeared to have elevated his game in late 2023; he resumed his ascent in the beginning of 2024, and it didn’t take long for him to win the Australian Open Grand Slam. The Italian reached his next major objective and dream a few months after winning his first Major: following the French Open, he rose to the top of the world rankings for the first time in his career.

Additionally, Sinner presently leads third-ranked Carlos Alcaraz by about 800 points and has just over 300 ranking points more than world No. 2 Novak Djokovic.

“You must get better if all you want is to keep the job. Furthermore, you must advance more than the others if you wish to get better. Sinner stated in Cincinnati, “I think there’s a good balance between how much work you can put in and how much quality you can do.”

Sinner acknowledges doubting his ability to return one day.

Prior to all of this, Sinner was merely unable to go past the Grand Slam quarterfinal stage since he was finding it difficult to perform well in the biggest stage matches against the best players.

Nevertheless, that is all resolved, and Sinner is now the clear favourite to win the title wherever he goes.

Everybody has doubts. I occasionally questioned my ability to win a Grand Slam, even before I did. After that, you arrive at the winning point. After, you still have to put in a lot of effort even though you know in your head that you can succeed,” Sinner said.

Sinner, meantime, is competing once more at the Cincinnati Masters after missing the Olympics in Paris because of tonsillitis. Sinner is the top seed in Cincinnati and gets a first-round bye before taking either Tallon Griekspoor or Alex Michelsen.
