Carlos Alcaraz is the most recent elite player to withdraw from the ATP Masters 1000 tournament, dealing a serious blow to the 2024 Canadian Open.

After defeating Tommy Paul in the quarterfinals of the Olympics in Paris, Alcaraz made his decision, and as a result, he will compete in the medal matches at Roland Garros.

The bronze medal playoff is scheduled for Saturday, the gold medal match is scheduled for Sunday, and the semifinal matches are scheduled for Friday.

Withdrawals from the Olympics in Paris were certain to affect the Canadian Open. The ATP Masters 1000 in Montreal will be difficult for players who are competing during Roland Garros’ business end to travel to. The main draw matches begin on August 6.

Alcaraz has withdrawn from the competition, joining Novak Djokovic, who is currently competing in the Olympics in Paris.

The four-time Grand Slam champion stated, “It has been a very long season for me and due to the accumulation of matches and fatigue, I will not be able to play in Montreal this year.”

“I was incredibly excited to return to Canada and bask in the affection of the supporters.” I hope to see you all in Montreal in the upcoming years!

Alcaraz has had a hectic schedule lately. He won the French Open earlier this year after defeating Alexander Zverev in five sets in Paris, and he advanced to the Wimbledon final where he overcame Djokovic to earn his fourth major.

The five youngest males to win gold in singles at the Olympics as Carlos Alcaraz aims to become history

The five men’s tennis players with the highest win percentage are as follows: No. 1 Novak Djokovic, fourth place Roger Federer

Jannik Sinner, the reigning champion who was forced to withdraw from the Olympics because to injury, is the clear favourite to win the Canadian Open twice.

The fact that Djokovic and Alcaraz have less points to defend in Canada is excellent news for them both. As Djokovic did not participate in the previous year’s tournament, he actually has no points to defend, and Alcaraz will only lose 180 points due to their quarterfinal loss.

However, it does imply that Sinner will continue to hold the top spot in the ATP Rankings following the competition, as only Djokovic and Alcaraz had a chance to unseat him.

Although Djokovic and Alcaraz were supposed to start second and third, it means Zverev, who was defeated in the Olympic quarterfinal, will start as the second seed and be accompanied by Daniil Medvedev, Alex de Minaur, and Hubert Hurkacz.

The competition may possibly suffer a few more setbacks because Felix Auger-Aliassime, a local favourite, advanced to the semi-final in Paris and will now take on Alcaraz.
