On Saturday, Jordan Spieth revealed that he had successfully undergone surgery on his left wrist the previous week.
With the statement, “I had an operation on my left wrist last week, as I had said was the plan,” Spieth made the disclosure on the social media site X. The procedure went well, and I am appreciative of Annie’s and my family’s support as well as the superb medical staff. I’m concentrating on recovery and recuperation, and I’m excited to get back into the game in 2025 feeling well and ready!
This season, Spieth failed to register a victory and concluded the FedEx Cup regular season ranked 63rd. He only advanced to the FedEx St. Jude Championship in Memphis’ opening playoff round, when he placed T-68. He had previously stated that he will need off-season surgery to fix his wrist, which has been bothering him for 16 months, at both the Wyndham Championship earlier this month and in Memphis.
Spieth stated in Memphis, “I’ve got to have it operated on ASAP, and then I’ll go through the process of what I’m meant to do from there.”
He had previously said that physical therapy would begin after the sixth week and that the healing process would take about three months. He mentioned that he could be able to participate in the Hero World Challenge in December or the PNC Championship the weekend prior to Christmas with his father.
The week prior to the 2023 PGA Championship, Spieth initially reported having a wrist issue and withdrew from the AT&T-sponsored Byron Nelson, his home tournament. Spieth is a seasoned AT&T representative. Spieth, 31, has won 13 Tour championships and three majors. In what he called one of his most difficult seasons, he started the year ranked No. 15 in the world and is now down to No. 44 in the Official World Golf Ranking.
Spieth stated, “I kept trying not to create excuses for myself since swinging didn’t hurt.” However, given the length of time and the fact that the outcomes are consistent every week, it doesn’t seem to be a coincidence. So I have a lot of hope.
He continued, “I think there’s some clarity in getting it done.” It’s also a little frightening because there is some ambiguity. However, I believe I might return stronger if I could learn to be more patient, something I struggle with.
