KC Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes: ‘A Lot’ of Throwing to Marquise ‘Hollywood’ Brown Soo
The quarterback for Kansas City gave a brief speech on his new offensive weapon and why he couldn’t wait to go to work.
Although Patrick Mahomes and Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, the new quarterback combination for the Kansas City Chiefs, haven’t connected on a pass yet, they’re drawing attention already.
The one-year contract pact that was reportedly reached last week both eases Mahomes’s workload and protects Kansas City’s wide-open room. Even though the team won the Super Bowl in the conclusion of 2023–24, the offense struggled during a significant portion of the regular season, and the receiver unit lacked elite skill. This summer, Brown’s acquisition is a significant first step toward the Chiefs’ goal of raising the floor and ceiling of that group.
Mahomes said he’ll be throwing to Brown a lot in the upcoming months.
Mahomes and his spouse, Brittany, gave an interview to the ESPN crew over the weekend from the Kansas City Current home opener. The two-time NFL MVP acknowledged the new receiver by tipping his cap and signaling that he was prepared to work when the topic was raised.
Mahomes responded, “Yes, he just provides a ton of tremendous playmaking ability.” “I’ve already spoken to that guy, so I think it’s great to be able to add someone like that who is eager to work and come in. We have a lot more throwing sessions ahead of us. We are going to make an effort to maintain this momentum. The women’s soccer team will win this soccer tournament, and we’ll attempt to return to the Super Bowl after that.”
Despite having had a disappointing season by his standards, Brown is still a significant upgrade for the Chiefs. He caught 51 catches for 574 yards and four touchdowns in 14 games the previous season. Of all the Kansas City wide receivers, only Rashee Rice would have trailed those marks. Brown’s 1,000-yard receiving season notwithstanding, his performance in his final season with the Arizona Cardinals appeared to be the exception rather than the rule.
Brown has had an odd quarterback situation over his five-year career. While neither offensive was flawless, his two best players were Kyler Murray in Arizona and Lamar Jackson in Baltimore. While Brown was with the Cardinals, Murray struggled with injuries, and the Ravens’ offense was more focused on the run game. Brown has never been a part of an offense as revered or pass-happy as head coach Andy Reid’s, nor has he played with a quarterback like Mahomes. He is a near-perfect fit for this new endeavor.
Kansas City’s off-season program won’t start for a while yet. The conditioning eligibility window begins on April 15 and is recognized as the time when Mahomes hosts his receivers for workouts. Their significance is undeniable, as those throwing sessions in Texas have even led to draft selections such as Rice. The work Brown does with the best player in the NFL will be a great starting point as he looks to make an impact on his new team and stay healthy.
