Potential problems between Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes could impact the Chiefs’ chemistry in 2024.
In 2024, the Kansas City Chiefs’ hegemony over the rest of the NFL during the 2020s will come under scrutiny. Internal strife may jeopardize Kansas City’s historic journey as the Chiefs aim to achieve an NFL record: three straight Super Bowl championships.
Fans are already aware of the controversy surrounding the team, which includes receiver Rashee Rice’s legal issues, accusations against defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs, and kicker Harrison Butker’s homophobic remarks at a college commencement last month. However, those issues are insignificant compared to a rift in the bond between the team’s most well-known players, tight end Travis Kelce and quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
There’s more to Kelce and Mahomes than meets the eye.
Given the recent developments and the behavioral issues that have already dogged a number of Kansas City players, fans are now “keying in” on Kelce and Mahomes.
Mahomes dressed appropriately for their most recent visit to the White House, while Kelce chose a somewhat more laid-back appearance. During a Dallas Stars playoff game, the teammates also engaged in back-and-forth on social media. Kelce said that Mahomes received “every call you can think of” in an extended tirade against the Chicago Bears this past weekend at a charity event.
If there are private conflicts, though, Kelce and Mahomes are skilled at hiding them. Taylor Swift is a pop singer, and Mahomes recently reminisced about encouraging Kelce to pursue her. The two have been together for nine months. And when history is at stake in 2024, the two elite teammates will be driven to avoid letting any unresolved personal grudges stand in the way of their continued success with the Chiefs.
