Isaiah Buggs, a player for the Kansas City Chiefs, was taken into custody once more, this time on suspicion of burglary and domestic abuse.
It happened only a few weeks after the winner of the Super Bowl was charged with two misdemeanors related to animal abuse.
Based on Tuscaloosa County prison records, Buggs was jailed in Alabama on Sunday morning and later freed on a $5,000 bail.
After being accused of two misdemeanor counts of second-degree animal cruelty in Tuscaloosa, Buggs turned himself in to the police on May 30.
Buggs was charged with abandoning two dogs on the rear porch of his home, which is close to the University of Alabama, his alma school.
Officers from Tuscaloosa Police and Animal Control discovered a pitbull encircled by excrement and without food or drink, according to court records.
Additionally, a black rottweiler mix that was kept in a metal cage under bright sunlight without access to food or water was discovered by first responders.
According to the legal suit, the city took possession of the dogs due to their extreme’malnutrition, emaciation, and maltreatment.’
The documents state that at the time of the first report, the house looked to have been abandoned, but the neighbors insisted the dogs had been outside on the porch for 10 days or more.
Investigators learned that Buggs was renting the residence and that his lease had been terminated in April because he owed more than $3,000 in arrears. According to witnesses, Buggs left the home on or around March 19.
The pitbull become hostile and refused heartworm treatment; as a result, the Tuscaloosa County Animal Shelter put it to sleep.
The Rottweiler mix, meanwhile, weighed a dangerously low 52 pounds when it arrived at the shelter and tested positive for parvovirus.
For the reigning Super Bowl winners, it’s another turn in a protracted offseason that has seen many players jailed or involved in scandal.
Rashee Rice, a rookie wide receiver, is not expected to face charges despite reports that he struck a photographer outside a Dallas nightclub.
In March, he was involved in a road racing event in Dallas that resulted in a catastrophe involving six automobiles, for which he faces criminal and civil charges.
Wanya Morris and Chukwuebuka Godrick were both taken into custody in Kansas on charges of misdemeanor possession of marijuana.
Both players were arrested and released after posting bond. They could face a fine of $2,500 and possibly a year in jail.
