Chiefs guard Joe Thuney (pectoral) out, running back Jerick McKinnon (groin) questionable for Super Bowl LVIII

Joe Thuney, who has missed this much of the postseason due to a pectoral injury, will not play for the Kansas City Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LIII. Prince Tega Wanogho, the backup offensive lineman, was also out due to a quad ailment. Due to a groin strain, veteran running back Jerick McKinnon is listed as questionable.

This week, McKinnon was taken off injured reserve, and he saw minimal practice time all week. For the entire week, Thuney did not take part in practice.

Thuney’s condition was discussed earlier this week by Chiefs head coach Andy Reid. Reid essentially stated that Nick Allegretti, who began and performed admirably in Thuney’s stead against the Baltimore Ravens in the AFC title game, will be asked to start once more.

Reid stated, “I would probably bet towards Allegretti playing,” as reported by Peter King of NBC Sports. For Joe [Thuney], it comes down to strength. It’s not powerful enough at the moment.”

Charles Omenihu, a defensive end for the Chiefs, damaged his knee during Kansas City’s victory against Baltimore in the AFC championship game. As a result, he was placed on injured reserve and will not participate on Sunday.

The Chiefs are one victory away from capturing their second straight crown and their team’s fourth Super Bowl victory. If McKinnon is able to go, they will have an additional pass catcher in the backfield.
