Head coach Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs is unconcerned with the team’s demanding schedule.
This offseason, the Chiefs have faced several problems, but one that hasn’t been addressed is their seemingly demanding schedule. Thus far.
Since winning the Super Bowl for the second time in a row earlier this year, the Chiefs head coach has surely had a lot on his plate. There have been plenty of challenges for the coach and the team, from kicker Harrison Butker’s now-famous controversial remark at a private school to Rashee Rice’s legal troubles after an odd hit-and-run incident.
Andy Reid of the Chiefs talks on the 2024 schedule
The Kansas City Chiefs have an unusual schedule for the 2024–25 season, as you may have noticed. Now, while some have linked that to Taylor Swift—which you can read more about here—the truth is that the Chiefs will be playing this season on all days bar Tuesday, which is unprecedented. To be clear, 14 of the 17 games the defending Super Bowl champions will play will start at 4:25 p.m. ET or later. Of course, this is in addition to their Thursday season opener, their Black Friday game, their Saturday game in Week 16, and their Wednesday-falling Christmas Day game in Week 17.
Nevertheless, head coach Andy Reid doesn’t appear to care that he wasn’t aware of the schedule before it was made public. This is unique, it’s the first time in my career that it’s happened, and we aren’t really caring. According to a Chiefs transcript, Reid stated, “They can give us a Tuesday game if they want, and we’ll be okay there, too.”We’ll play anybody, anyplace, and whatever they want to do after we go through it. We agree. It’s important to note that the NFL obviously considered these factors when scheduling the Chiefs for eight consecutive games, which is really a league-high. However, that is also connected to the networks, who obviously want a share of the Chiefs’ success.
The Chiefs’ triumph has befallen them.
It’s easy to see that things aren’t normal when you look at the Chiefs’ schedule for the next season. To begin with, NBC will broadcast four games: the first game, the Saturday game right before Christmas, and two more “Sunday Night Football” games. Then, before Netflix streams the first-ever NFL games on Christmas Day, ESPN will air two “Monday Night Football” games. Not to be overlooked are the eight additional games that CBS has scheduled, which is a league-high for the network. Kickoff for four of those games is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET.

However, it’s not unexpected that the Chiefs are a hot commodity in terms of ratings given that they have now won three Super Bowls in the previous five years.Last week, Patrick Mahomes noted, “I feel like our schedule has become busier and crazier every single year.” It just comes down to getting ready for the coming week. We anticipate a large number of prime-time games. We have accumulated the necessary equity to participate in those games. We play a lot of excellent football teams at the end of the season, so it’s important that we figure out a way to improve from last year’s mistakes, learn from them, and inspire ourselves to get healthier more quickly so that we can win those games.
Remarkably, the Chiefs’ next two games of the season are on the road, at the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, then at home against the Houston Texans on Saturday. Following that, Reid’s team plays the previously mentioned Christmas Day game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, about which Mahomes specifically mentioned.Mahomes declared, “I’m going to try to be better on Christmas.” The quarterback for the Chiefs said, “Because last Christmas was not wonderful.”In terms of the season finale, the Chiefs’ final game will be against the Broncos in Denver.
