Vegas Raiders’ revised cap room following the disclosure of the Andrus Peat trade
Following the release of offensive lineman Andrus Peat’s contract terms, we now have an update on the salary cap space available to the Las Vegas Raiders for the 2024 NFL season.
Peat’s one-year contract is valued at $2 million with a $2.23 million total cap charge, according to Over the Cap. However, because of a signing bonus, Peat’s contract only provides $450,000 in guaranteed income.
Now that Peat’s contract is in place, the Raiders have $13.1 million in effective cap room, which is determined by Over the Cap. Effective cap space is the amount of money a team has after adding at least 51 players to its roster, including its anticipated rookie class. In the NFL, that total is ranked 15th.
Even if it’s not a lot of cap space, the Raiders can still sign at least one more big player with it. Keep in mind that after Jimmy Garoppolo’s money is removed off the books on June 1st, Las Vegas will have an additional $24 million available.
Regarding Peat, head coach Antonio Pierce disclosed that he intends to use him as a guard, which means he may be considered for the starting lineup. Pierce said that Peat would provide Kolton Miller some depth at left tackle. Although he began his career at left tackle, the seasoned lineman has spent the majority of his time playing left guard.
The Raiders used Dylan Parham at right guard on Day 2 of OTAs, while Cody Whitehair and Jackson Powers-Johnson both saw action on the left side. Let’s see if Peat has a chance to win either position.
