In Florida, LeBron James’s exit serves as political fodder.
LeBron James, a basketball player, is creating a lot of buzz in Florida about his plan to leave the Miami Heat and rejoin his hometown team in Cleveland; in fact, it’s becoming campaign fodder.
The campaign for Gov. Rick Scott, R-Fla., released reporters a picture of James beside that of Scott’s Democratic opponent, former Gov.
Charlie Crist on Friday afternoon. What does the black-and-white picture say? “These two guys—what do they have in common? Both of them fled.
Theatrics underlying James’ 2010 decision to leave Cleveland for Miami are well-known, and his choice to return to Cleveland has infuriated basketball fans once more.
In the meantime, Republican Crist held the office of governor of Florida. However, he chose to become independent when he was young.
Marco Rubio defeated him in the Republican primary for the Senate in 2010. Crist formally joined the Democratic Party in 2012 and declared his intention to challenge Scott.
According to Florida-based CBS News Radio journalist Peter King, the Florida Republican Party has since launched a concerted effort to cast doubt on the former governor’s morality.
The connection elicited a sharp backlash from the Crist campaign.
“LeBron arrived in Florida during Charlie Crist’s governorship and departed during Rick Scott’s administration.
Ask seniors and the middle class, and they’ll tell you that Rick Scott’s sole basketball expertise is likely in stealing,” Crist spokesperson Kevin Cate told CBS.
