SYLVANIA The LPGA Dana Open has announced that Lexi Thompson, who just announced her retirement at the end of the 2024 season, will be honored during Friday’s tournament round on July 19.
Thompson expressed her gratitude for being selected by the Dana Open to receive recognition on Friday of the tournament week. “I always look forward to visiting Toledo because of the incredible supporters and, ideally, the next generation of golfers.
“It’s amazing what the Dana Open does to support organizations that help kids, and I just hope that by participating, all of us girls will inspire others and change things.”
The 29-year-old Thompson has won 11 times on the LPGA Tour and has played in six Solheim Cup matches for the United States, the two most recent being in 2023 in Spain and 2021 at Inverness Club.
Judd Silverman, the director of the Dana Open tournament, said, “We felt this was the perfect opportunity to thank Lexi for everything she’s done for golf. She has contributed so much to the LPGA Tour’s success and growth over the past 14 years.”
“Lexi has inspired children to follow their passions and have great dreams while advancing women’s golf. She has, I believe, signed almost every cap, glove, ball, and flag that have been sent to her. She has also graciously accepted innumerable invitations from sponsors to appear on their behalf.
“The community should take advantage of Tournament Friday to visit the Dana Open and let Lexi know how much we value her contributions to the game of golf and children.”
“While saying goodbye is never easy, it is absolutely time,” Thompson continued. I will be taking a break from playing professional golf at the end of 2024.
“I’m eager to enjoy the rest of the year because I still have a few ambitions to complete.” I’m excited for what lies ahead in my life. spending time with my dependable dog, Leo, and family. I’ll always be on the lookout for methods to improve the game and motivate upcoming golfers.
At Highland Meadows Golf Club, the 40th Annual Dana Open will take place from July 16–21 with a $1.75 million payout.
ProMedica Russell Ebeid Children’s Hospital, Nationwide Children’s Hospital-Toledo, Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity: Women Build, Ronald McDonald House Charities of NW Ohio, and the Jamie Farr Scholarship Fund of the Greater Toledo Community Foundation are just a few of the children’s charities that will benefit from this year’s Dana Open.
