Dave Roberts, manager of the Dodgers, talks about Gavin Lux’s sluggish defensive start to spring.
Gavin Lux, an infielder, is anticipated to return to the shortstop position on a full-time basis for the Dodgers this season after overcoming an ACL tear. Lux suffered an ACL tear during spring training, ending his 2023 season.
He’s back and eager to prove himself, but he’s had a sluggish start, particularly defensively. Following the Dodgers’ Wednesday game against the Chicago White Sox, manager Dave Roberts spoke with the media about the young infielder’s sluggish start.
“We just need to keep running Gavin out there so he can get confidence in his footwork, catch ability, and ability to get the ball over the diamond.
It might take some time for players to fully recover to game speed following any kind of injury. Lux is striving to be comfortable in every element of his playing actions, but tearing an ACL adds extra burden.
“I won’t reveal only a little portion of what we’ve observed just yet. All I can hope for is that it will continue to improve with practice.
Despite the difficulties, Roberts isn’t very concerned about Lux. He is aware that it can take some time, which is the purpose of spring training.
But Roberts added, “I think we just have to realize that it still takes time to get back up to major-league speed and feel that it’ll be there where it needs to be whenever the bell sounds.”
Lux has the organization’s full support, and he did a great job tackling his rehabilitation. The Dodgers are hoping he can return to being the top prospect he once was, even though there might be some growing pains along the way.
