Los Angeles Lakers as favorites to land $114 million Atlanta Hawks star

The Lakers are set to land their star but they would have to let one of their best players leave in a potential trade

The Los Angeles Lakers are already aware that they require a superstar player to help them advance in the standings this year. While there are other choices under consideration, Dejounte Murray of the Atlanta Hawks is one of the more popular ones. Shams Charania, an NBA insider, recently revealed Murray as a viable alternative, despite Zach LeVine being the top target lately. The Hawks player is the most sensible choice for the Lakers because LaVine pays much more than Murray does. Murray has an extension with four years remaining on his $120 million contract, but it doesn’t start until the next season. GM of the Lakers Rob Pelink takes into account each of these aspects.

Who could leave as a trade for Murray

The Hawks won’t take just any guy in exchange for Dejounte Murray, which is a drawback to this possible trade. The goal is to request Austin Reaves in exchange for this possible deal, should they entertain the concept. In Los Angeles, Reaves has become a fast favorite among the fans, despite the Lakers’ indecision. If he is traded for another player to join the club, the supporters who have stood by him for all these years will not be pleased. Conversely, though, Reaves is one of the few players who would make sense in a Murray trade.

At the moment, 27-year-old Dejounte is in his second season with the Hawks. The guard had an All-Star caliber game when he played for the San Antonio Spurs, but he hasn’t been able to replicate that kind of play with the Hawks. Furthermore, Murray hasn’t been paired alongside Trae Young as the Atlanta coaching staff had hoped when he initially arrived. Murray is still averaging 20.2 points, 5.3 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 1.6 steals per game, which is impressive given the circumstances. In 30 starts this season, he is also shooting 37.4% from beyond the arc.
