Matthew Stafford, the quarterback for the Los Angeles Rams, is feeling better than he has in a long time despite becoming older, and he currently has no plans to retire.
Given that the Los Angeles Rams are out of the playoffs, it may be appropriate to consider the possibility of some of the team’s veterans retiring.
Given that he will turn 36 in less than a month, veteran quarterback Matthew Stafford is among the most likely to announce his retirement.
In his postgame press conference following the tight Wild Card loss, however, Stafford playfully put any retirement rumours to rest, saying that, barring any setbacks, he will be back for the next season.
At the moment, that’s Stafford’s plan. “My plan is to be back, and you’ll have to deal with me for another year, so have fun with that.”
The Rams quarterback appears to be in better shape than he has in a long time, according to Ian Rapoport, who discussed this further on NFL GameDay.
Rapoport described him as “vintage Matthew Stafford.” “These people that have seen Stafford for years say that he is throwing the ball as well as he has in a very long time, and that is one reason why he has no plans to retire.”
Furthermore, he is correct.
Stafford has been dealing with an elbow injury for the last couple of seasons, but it did not look like it affected him at all as he led the Rams to the playoffs with a 10-7 record.
But despite that, Stafford passed for 367 yards and two touchdowns in the loss to the Detroit Lions with a very loud Ford Field booing him.
He also played through a finger injury that he sustained mid-way through the game, further cementing that he is one of the toughest guys there is in the NFL.
And by his own words, he’s ready to run it back again in 2024.
