Los Angeles Rams
Kevin Dotson
The Rams’ signing of Kevin Dotson was one of their best and most significant offseason decisions in an otherwise quiet offseason. In the hopes that he would eventually establish himself as a starter, they added the Steelers guard to their offensive line room just before the season started.
After Joe Noteboom was hurt, he assumed the right guard position and didn’t let go, playing as one of the best interior offensive linemen in the NFL. With an overall score of 84.4, he was the second-highest-graded guard, according to PFF.
With just one year remaining on his deal, Dotson will become a free agency in March—that is the only drawback to the move. It might be difficult for the Rams to re-sign him given his style of play and the league’s need for excellent guards, but they intend to do so.
Despite being fully aware that other clubs would be vying for Dotson’s services, Rams General Manager Les Snead said reporters on Friday that the team wants to extend Dotson’s contract.
“He will undoubtedly have a marketplace. Snead predicted that people would want to have him play football for them. “One of those teams is us.”
Snead continued, “The Rams will take some time to reset and evaluate their situation, including their potential moves in free agency. We won’t be rushing to make any offseason decisions just yet.”
We’ll proceed a little more slowly. We’ll unwind, return, and evaluate our identity, our goals for 2024, and our direction going forward,” he remarked.
The 27-year-old Dotson was a key member of the offensive line and will likely stay so for the foreseeable future. By re-signing him and matching him with Steve Avila, who recently concluded his rookie year, the Rams have an opportunity to strengthen the guard position.
The Rams would like to add Dotson to fill a number of gaps, but guard should be one of them.
