Though Jonah Jackson is a new member of the Los Angeles Rams, he is no stranger to Matthew Stafford‘s blocking. In 2020, as a rookie, he spent one season with Stafford, starting every game at left guard in the quarterback’s penultimate season in Detroit.

After agreeing to a three-year contract with the Rams, he will block for Stafford once more in 2024, and he is excited about it. Jackson is thrilled to be working with Stafford again in Detroit after witnessing firsthand what the player dubbed the “Wizard” is capable of.

In his inaugural news conference, Jackson gave an explanation of how Stafford came to be known as the “wizard” in 2020.

“We called him the ‘Wizard’ in Detroit,” Jackson recalled. “He is capable of solving any problem and achieving any goal.” To be able to shield him, let him improve our image, and allow plays to be made excites me.

Whether it’s lowering his arm angle and hitting a sidearm or stepping up in the pocket and sending a pass down the field, Stafford does have a knack for making plays that don’t always seem to be there.

In his three seasons with the Rams, he has excelled at both of those tasks. However, in 2024, with Jackson, Steve Avila, and Kevin Dotson providing interior blocking, he may have his greatest offensive line to yet.
