Cooper Kupp may be nearing the end of his career with the Los Angeles Rams. Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports revealed last week that Kupp might be a trade target close to the deadline, and it now looks like that is happening.
According to The Athletic, the Rams are reportedly in talks with several clubs over the possibility of dealing the former Super Bowl MVP and Pro Bowl wide receiver.
Los Angeles wants a second-round selection in exchange for a possible trade, and they have contacted several clubs about it. According to reports, the Rams are open to accepting a portion of Kupp’s compensation this season in order to come to an agreement.
According to Spotrac, Kupp’s current contract calls for him to earn $9.1 million guaranteed this season, $20 million in 2025 (of which $5 million is guaranteed), and $19.85 million (not guaranteed) in 2026.
Kupp has 18 receptions for 147 yards and a touchdown in 2024 despite only playing in two games this season.
He sustained a high ankle sprain during a game against the Arizona Cardinals on September 15 and hasn’t played since. After initially being doubtful to play, Kupp did not participate in the Rams’ victory over the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
After being selected by the Rams in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft, Kupp has played his whole career with the organization. After leading the team to a Super Bowl victory at the end of the 2021 season, Kupp won Super Bowl MVP and NFL Offensive Player of the Year. However, injuries have plagued his last few seasons; the 31-year-old receiver only appeared in nine games in 2022 and 12 games the previous season.
The Rams’ other standout receiver, Puka Nakua, has also been sidelined since September due to a PCL sprain. Tutu Atwell, Demarcus Robinson, and other receivers have filled in for those two out; if Kupp is dealt, they will probably be the ones to step up.
