31 year old Rams tight end Tyler Higbee has announced his retirement after admitting ”he can no longer continue, due to injury.

The Los Angeles Rams suffered a crushing playoff loss to the Detroit Lions the previous season, and their finest tight end, Tyler Higbee, went down with an ACL rupture.

Because of the timing of such a significant injury, it was also expected that Higbee would miss at least part of the next season as he recovers.

At the NFL Owners Meetings, Sean McVay, the head coach of the Rams, has now clarified the situation with his top tight end, Higbee, for reporters. He said that when training camp starts in July, Higbee is expected to be added to the PUP list.

Higbee may still play in Week 1 with this designation, though it is unlikely given the nature and timing of the injury.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, recovery from an ACL damage typically takes six to nine months after surgery. Higbee sustained the injury on January 14.

Fortunately, Los Angeles has a lot of depth at the tight end position thanks to second-year player Davis Allen, who had an incredible season finale. Allen finished his first season with 10 receptions for 95 yards and a score in the regular season, but he only managed two catches for 28 yards in the playoff loss to Detroit. Allen did not make his first catch until November 26.

The Rams also signed Colby Parkinson, a former Seahawks tight end who is starting his fifth NFL season. Parkinson spent four years as a Seattle Seahawk, playing in 54 games with four starts. In addition, he caught 57 passes for 618 yards and four touchdowns on 78 targets.
