Stetson Bennett was selected by the Los Angeles Rams in the fourth round of the previous draft, although he did not play in a single game during his rookie campaign. Nor is it because he was injured.

For unknown reasons, Bennett missed the entire season on the non-football illness list, forcing the Rams to go through several backup quarterbacks behind Matthew Stafford. He might not return until 2024, according to Sean McVay.

Bennett’s status with the team for the upcoming campaign is unknown, according to McVay, who told reporters on Wednesday that it’s “a conversation for another time.” Bennett is improving, he mentioned, but he provided no other information regarding his health or circumstances.

The Rams have yet to disclose the non-football-related reason Bennett missed his entire rookie season. His sole public appearance was in November while he was watching a Georgia football game from the sidelines alongside other former Bulldogs.

Back in September, when Bennett was first added to the NFI list, McVay declared that the situation was “bigger and more important” than football and asked for no further information.

The Rams selected Bennett, a Georgia native, with the 128th overall pick in the fourth round.
