Coach Steve Sarkisian anticipates more success from Jordan Whittington, who was a fan favorite when playing for the Texas Longhorns. Whittington will soon be formally entering the NFL.
With pick No. 213 in the sixth round on Friday, the Los Angeles Rams added Whittington to their roster of players overseen by offensive maestro Sean McVay.
The Rams “are going to absolutely love” Whittington, who during the last five seasons has helped the Texas program turn things around, according to Sarkisian.
According to Texas Athletics, Sarkisian stated, “Coach McVay and the Rams are going to absolutely love Jordan Whittington.” He’ll be a multifaceted player for LA both on the field and in the community. J-Whitt was the most invaluable member of our team during our three years at Texas, contributing significantly to the development of both our program and culture. He is a fantastic player, an amazing teammate, and a guy who gives the team his all both on and off the field.”
Whittington’s tenure at Texas was marked by hardship. In addition to battling many injury concerns, he transitioned from running back to receiver.
All of it paid off, though, as he demonstrated to scouts toward the end of his college career that he is an NFL talent. While some players have more impressive stats than Whittington, he also showed exceptional intangibles in addition to dependable receiving abilities. Over the course of five seasons in Austin, he participated in 41 games (25 starts). In program history, he is ranked 14th with 1,757 receiving yards and 12th with 141 receptions. While at Texas, he scored six touchdowns.
“I love Jordan Whittington and what he meant to our team from a leadership and toughness standpoint,” Sarkisian stated. “He approaches the game correctly. He performs all the grunt work you would expect from a superb all-around player.”
