As he played the Rams in Sunday night’s playoff game, Lions quarterback Jared Goff claimed he had a grudge against his old team. According to Rams coach Sean McVay, Goff had good reason to feel that way.
Before moving Goff to Detroit, McVay stated that he wished he had shown his appreciation to Goff for the four years they shared.
Could I have handled it more skillfully on my end? Indeed,” McVay remarked. “I won’t ever try to escape that. However, the more you distance yourself from it, the more you want to develop as a man, a leader, and a person. He was entitled to a better outcome than what transpired. I will accept that. I believe he is also aware of that. And while I have no problem owning up to those things, I believe it benefits all of us to be able to reflect on them. And as time passes, I do come to appreciate him more.
McVay expressed his admiration for Goff’s development as a quarterback since moving to Detroit.
“He’s performed admirably for them. They’ve been among the best offences for the past few years, according to McVay.
Matthew Stafford was acquired by the Lions in exchange for Jared Goff and two first-round selections. Stafford helped the Rams win a Super Bowl, and this season, Goff gave the Lions their best season since he left Detroit. Declaring Sunday’s game’s winner the true trade winner would be unduly simplistic, but given their individual histories, all parties involved might be more motivated.
