In the Los Angeles Rams’ Wild Card loss to the Detroit Lions on Sunday, tight end Tyler Higbee is said to have torn his ACL.
As they approached the finish line in the hopes of defeating the Detroit Lions in the playoffs on Sunday night, the Los Angeles Rams were bruised and battered.
Nevertheless, they would ultimately lose, losing a crucial player to an injury in the process.
Rams tight end Tyler Higbee suffered what appeared to be a lower-body injury late in the fourth quarter against the Lions, attempting to haul in a pass from Matthew Stafford that fell incomplete.
Higbee was hit in the leg by Lions safety Kerby Joseph and landed hard on the turf, and he immediately exited the game as a result.
Now, initial reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter indicate that the Rams believe Higbee has suffered a torn ACL. Higbee is due to undergo additional testing in the coming days, and if the ligament is indeed torn, will likely undergo surgery soon.
The typical recovery for an ACL repair surgery is between eight to nine months, though recoveries have been seen in as little as six months.
Given the time of the injury, Higbee’s availability for this offseason’s OTAs, Minicamp, and training camp is likely lost.
And there is a chance he could also miss the beginning of next season, depending on how long it takes him to recover.
Former Rams receiver Odell Beckham Jr. suffered an ACL tear during the team’s Super Bowl LVI win over the Bengals two seasons ago, and he did not play a game in the 2022 season.
Meanwhile, Cowboys receiver Michael Gallup tore his ACL in the team’s Divisional Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers on Jan. 22 of last year, and was able to return – albeit in a limited capacity – for the start of the regular season.
