Rams’ veteran WR Ben Skowronek  announces his departure after accusing GM Les Snead of forcing him out of team.

The Los Angeles Rams shipped veteran WR and Super Bowl champion Ben Skowronek to the Houston Texans.

The Los Angeles Rams traded wide receiver Ben Skowronek and a seventh-round draft pick to the Houston Texans in exchange for sixth and seventh-round pick swaps in 2026, capping the back-and-forth over the four-year veteran’s football future. This news was reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport.

Shortly after Diana Russini of The Athletic announced that Skowronek had been cut by the Rams, word of the trades was first received.

After being selected by the Rams in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Notre Dame, Skowronek won a Super Bowl as a rookie in Super Bowl 56, defeating the Cincinnati Bengals 23–20 with two receptions for 12 yards.

In 2022, Skowronek enjoyed his finest season as a Ram, racking up 39 receptions for 376 receiving yards in 11 starts. Additionally, Skowronek was lined up as fullback by Rams head coach Sean McVay, where he scored his sole NFL touchdown to date on a 17-yard run.

Because of these great players, the Los Angeles Rams are the first NFL team to win a world title in three distinct cities. The Rams seem to have settled on wide receiver as their starting position for 2024. Puka Nacua, a fifth-round pick in 2023, returns to the position after setting records as an NFL rookie for receptions (105), receiving yards (1,486), single-game receptions (15), and most receiving yards in a playoff game (181). Nacua was also selected to the second team of the NFL All-Pro and Pro Bowl.

Cooper Kupp, the 2021 NFL Offensive Player of the Year, is also back and probably healthy. He has missed 15 games over the last two seasons because of injuries. With 145 receptions for 1,947 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns in 2021, Kupp had one of the best seasons ever for a wide receiver in NFL history. He also became just the fourth player to earn the receiving triple crown since 1966.

Without using a first-round selection, the Los Angeles Rams have selected two NFL All-Pro wide receivers in the past ten years: Puka Nacua, a fifth-round pick in 2023, and Cooper Kupp, a third-round selection in 2017. Only once in the previous 20 years have the Rams taken a wide receiver with a first-round pick—Tavon Austin of West Virginia, at No. 8 overall—in the wide receiver class.

With eight receptions for 92 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning reception in the victory over the Bengals, Kupp concluded that season by winning Super Bowl MVP. Before the 2022 season, Kupp inked a three-year, $80 million contract extension.

In the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Rams selected Jordan Whittington, a wide receiver out of Texas.

While Tank Dell, a second-year player, was shot while a spectator at a private event in Sanford, Florida, on April 28, the Texans find themselves suddenly shorthanded in their wide receivers room. Despite this, the organization has stated that they anticipate Dell to make a “full recovery.”

Skowronek joins a crowded receiver group in Houston that also features Stefon Diggs, a two-time All-Pro, Dell, and Nico Collins, the Texans’ top receiver for 2023. They’ll also have fourth-round TE Cade Stover and recently extended TE Dalton Schultz.
