Neville Gallimore, a veteran defensive tackle, officially joined the Dolphins from the Cowboys.
Needing defensive tackles following the departure of two starters via free agency, the Dolphins inked former Dallas Cowboys backup and part-time starter Neville Gallimore to a one-year deal.
In the wake of Christian Wilkins joining the Raiders and Raekwon Davis committing to the Colts, the transaction, announced by his agent Richard Roberts, gives Miami depth as well as a potential starter, should it be required.
In his four seasons with the Cowboys, Gallimore, 27, recorded 90 tackles, including 11 for loss, along with four sacks and three passes defended.
Over his four years in Dallas, the 6-2, 302-pound Gallimore made 52 appearances and started 14 of them.
According to agent Richard Roberts, Gallimore declined a slightly higher offer from another team because he enjoyed the opportunity in Miami and the ability to work with Dolphins defensive line coach Austin Clark, with whom he has a long-standing positive relationship.
Although Gallimore can play nose tackle (Davis’ position in Miami), he will compete at Wilkins’ post.goo
He recorded 288 defensive snaps and 16 tackles in 17 games during the previous campaign. In the online assessment of 2023 defensive tackles, Pro Football Focus ranked him 69th out of 130 players.
As a rookie in 2020, he started nine games; the following season, he started none.
Over the previous four seasons, he participated in 44, 48, 37, and 27 percent of the Cowboys’ defensive snaps.
In four seasons, he played 51 special team snaps, but only one final season.
In 2020, Dallas selected him from Oklahoma in the third round of the draft.
Together with Zach Sieler, Gallimore is Miami’s most seasoned defensive tackle.
Born in Ottawa, Gallimore was the first athlete to be invited from outside Canada to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, which is reserved for the nation’s top high school seniors. However, a knee injury prevented him from playing in that particular game in 2015.
Along with linebackers Jordyn Brooks and Anthony Walker, tight end Jonnu Smith, centre Aaron Brewer, linebacker Shaq Barrett, safety Jordan Poyer, and cornerback Sirian Neal, he is the eighth notable free agent to reach an agreement.
