Tua Tagovailoa, the quarterback for the Miami Dolphins, has no intention of retiring following his most recent concussion, according to people with knowledge of the matter, which NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported on Sunday on NFL GameDay Morning.

According to Rapoport, Tagovailoa has started seeing concussion specialists and will keep doing so until he and his doctors decide he is well enough to play again, even if there is currently no timetable for his comeback.

In the Dolphins’ Thursday night loss to the Buffalo Bills, quarterback Josh Bell suffered a concussion. Following Tagovailoa’s most recent concussion, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel stated that he doesn’t want to place that kind of burden on the 26-year-old and has “zero idea” what any timeline may be.

“First and foremost, I’m not assessing the injury through the lens of, ‘Alright, so what does this mean for him playing?'” Says McDaniel on Friday. “Really, for me, I know the facts are that it’s important that he gets healthy day by day, and in that, the best thing I can do is not try to assess what this even means from a football standpoint.”

On a fourth-down run in the third quarter, with the Dolphins trailing 31-10, Tagovailoa was hurt while scrambling for six yards. After colliding head-on with Bills defender Darmar Hamlin, Tagovailoa remained on the ground as the Dolphins quarterback was examined on the field by the team’s medical staff. He was declared out due to a concussion and was able to go on his own.

Skylar Thompson, the backup quarterback for Miami, completed the game after Tagovailoa left. With no timetable on Tagovailoa, the Dolphins are anticipated to promote veteran Tim Boyle to the practice squad.

Throughout his NFL career, Tagovailoa has experienced concussions in the past.

Due to concussions, Tagovailoa missed five games in 2022, including a playoff game. The Dolphins quarterback missed two games after being carted off the field against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 4 of that season. Tagovailoa suffered a concussion during a game on Christmas Day against the Green Bay Packers, and he missed the rest of the campaign.

In 55 games played over the course of five seasons, Tagovailoa has completed passes for 13,122 yards, 83 touchdowns, and 40 interceptions. As a starting quarterback, the No. 5 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft has a 33-20 record.

This previous summer, Tagovailoa and the Dolphins reached an agreement on a four-year, $212.4 contract extension.
