It seems doubtful that one of the Miami Dolphins’ wide receivers will return for the 2024 campaign in the absence of any official statement from the team. All-Pro returner and receiver Braxton Berrios bid farewell to the city of Miami in a lengthy, emotional message on his personal Instagram account. In the previous offseason, Berrios inked a one-year deal with the Dolphins.

Miami Dolphins WR Braxton Berrios says Goodbye to Franchise

Late on Thursday night, Berrios posted a farewell to the Miami Dolphins team on Instagram. “I regret having to stop this one. I will always be appreciative of this year since it allowed me to play for my old team and return to my hometown.

After playing collegiate football for the Miami Hurricanes, Berrios rose to prominence as one of the ACC’s most effective punt returners. In terms of punt return yards per return in 2017, he headed the conference. During his time with the Hurricanes, he also caught 100 receptions for 1,175 yards and fourteen touchdowns.

“I’m thankful for all my guys I got to share the field with and everybody else in that building that made coming to work every day fun,” Berrios said in his next statement. Fins off.

The skill player posted that the Dolphins will not be bringing him back for the upcoming season, despite the fact that Berrios signed a one-year contract with them in March. As a sixth-round selection in 2018, the Miami product began his professional career with the New England Patriots. He spent the following four seasons as a player for the New York Jets, where as a returner he was named an All-Pro in 2021.

Miami Dolphins: Needing to Replace Berrios Next Season

This season, Berrios participated in 16 games and caught 27 receptions for 238 yards and one touchdown. In addition, he recovered 18 kickoffs for 441 yards and 23 punts for 235 yards. Next season, the Dolphins will probably need to replace their leading return man and third wide receiver. Towards the end of 2023, fellow wideout Cedrick Wilson Jr. had 58 more receiving yards but five fewer catches than Berrios. Wilson has a contract that expires at the end of the following year. He also had four punt returns.

Tyreek Hill or Jaylen Waddle might be moved to the return position by the Dolphins. But the previous season, they were purely receivers. In 2021, Waddle recovered five punts for 35 yards. Although Hill only registered two punt returns during his time with the Dolphins, he led the NFL in most statistics related to punt returns in the 2016 season. Miami may use free agency or the draft to replace Berrios’ output.
