Tua Tagovailoa has made it clear that he will remain a member of the Miami Dolphins for the time being. The Miami Dolphins signal-caller, who is entering the last year of his rookie contract, stated in a statement to the media on Friday that he hopes to sign a new agreement this summer.

The 25-year-old quarterback just finished his career with the Miami Dolphins and made his first Pro Bowl appearance yesterday. Consequently, the front office has alluded to the potential of fulfilling Tua Tagovailoa’s demand.

“Communication has occurred,” stated Tagovailoa. “I believe that at this point, I’m just letting the team speak with my agent and let them resolve that.”

Tua Tagovailoa’s 2023 campaign

In addition to leading the NFL in passing yards with 4,624 in 2023, Tua Tagovailoa recorded 29 touchdown passes in 17 regular-season games. It is admirable that he participated in every game during the regular season, as this was a first in his four-year NFL career.

The Miami Dolphins had the league’s best overall offense as a result. Their 11-6 win-loss record allowed them to finish second in the AFC East, but they ultimately suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the Kansas City Chiefs in the wild-card round. This has cast doubt on Tua Tagovailoa’s capacity to perform well in pivotal games.

Skepticism stems from the Miami Dolphins’ 1-6 record in 2023 versus opponents deserving of the postseason. Tua Tagovailoa had an 80.2 passer rating, seven interceptions, eight touchdowns, and a 62.8 completion % against the top opponents. Tua Tagovailoa, on the other hand, had a 71.7 completion %, 22 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, and a 110.7 passer rating against teams that did not make the playoffs.

What the Miami Dolphins said about Tua Tagovailoa

The Miami Dolphins are over $51 million over the salary cap, so they will need to make some important decisions this offseason. In addition to Tua Tagovailoa, Christian Wilkins, Robert Hunt, Xavien Howard, Terron Armstead, and Jerome Baker are noteworthy free agents.

To retain Tua Tagovailoa for the long term, the Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier has indicated that the organization is attempting to finalize his extension.

“Having him here for the long run and playing at a high level is the aim. That’s always the objective, and we’ll stay in touch with him during this summer,” Grier stated.
