Reminiscent to the Miami Dolphins’ Championship Appearances in Super Bowl Starvation
On January 20, 1985, in Stanford, California, San Francisco 49ers running back Roger Craig faced off against the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX.
Fans in their middle years are getting closer to social security than they were to the last time they witnessed the Dolphins play in the Super Bowl.
To further complicate matters, the Dolphins this season became the NFL franchise with the longest winning streak without a postseason victory.
The Dolphins made five Super Bowl appearances through 1985. In anticipation of Sunday’s big 49ers vs. Chiefs game, let’s reminisce about the Phins’ golden era since we haven’t had much to show for the past forty years.

Dallas Cowboys 24, Miami Dolphins 3 in Super Bowl VI
However, Dallas unleashed a massive onslaught, amassing 252 rushing yards.
The Cowboys destroyed the Dolphins in their first Super Bowl, with the Dallas defense putting up a fierce fight and limiting the Phins to just one stinking field goal.
Not until 2019 would the Patriots’ defense hold the Rams to three points in the Super Bowl and replicate the previous year’s accomplishment.
2013 saw President Barack Obama make remarks at a ceremony honoring the Miami Dolphins, the 1972 Super Bowl champions.
Miami Dolphins 14, Washington Redskins 7 in Super Bowl VII
The ideal time of year. Since this is almost all Dolphins supporters have had to brag about for the past 50 years, you may have heard about it before.
The NFL’s first and only perfect season concluded on January 14, 1973, at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, when the Dolphins took on the Washington Redskins in Super Bowl VII. Nicknamed the No-Name Defense, the Dolphins’ defense overpowered its opponents and won, completing Miami’s season with a 17-0 record.
Following starting quarterback Bob Griese’s early-season injury (broken leg), veteran quarterback Earl Morrall assisted the Dolphins in preserving their supremacy. However, Griese took the reins for the Super Bowl and put an end to Miami’s legendary season.
The game is most remembered because it ended Miami’s undefeated season. However, it’s also well-known for the foolishness of Dolphins kicker Garo Yepremian, who attempted a hilarious pass after his blocked field goal, which resulted in the lone touchdown for the Redskins.
