Craig Roh, a former football player for Michigan who recorded 51 straight starts and set a program record, passed away on Monday, his wife shared on social media. 33 was his age.
According to his wife Chelsea, Roh fought Stage IV colon cancer for eighteen months. Their son is two years old.Roh attended Michigan from 2009 to 2012 before starting a professional football career. Under head coach Rich Rodriguez, he played linebacker for two years before switching to defensive end under Brady Hoke. The offensive guard Mason Cole eventually tied the program record that Roh set by starting every game of his career. As a senior, Roh was selected by the league’s coaches to the All-Big Ten second team. As a junior, he assisted Michigan in winning the Sugar Bowl and finishing 11-2 overall.The native of Scottsdale, Arizona, where he won the Gatorade Player of the Year award in his high school year, was not chosen in the NFL draft. He spent a season on the NFL’s Carolina Panthers practice squad after signing a practice squad contract. After making the switch to the Experimental Football League, he joined the Canadian Football League in 2015. He went on to play for a number of clubs and, in 2019, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers won the Grey Cup. It was his final season in 2021.
