Kiké Hernández, the first super-utility player acquired by the Minnesota Twins, was purchased for
Kiké Hernández was purportedly acquired by the Dodgers in a deal with the Red Sox.
According to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal on Tuesday, the details of a transaction for the utility player from the Red Sox have been agreed upon by the Dodgers. ESPN stated that Triple-A relievers Nick Robertson and Justin Hagenman will be sent to the Red Sox in exchange.
With this move, Hernández is back with the team he has played for the majority of his career. He spent six seasons (2015–20) as a player for the Dodgers, and in 2020 he helped them end their World Series drought.
Hernández’s time in Boston is off to a strong start. In 2021, he amassed a.786 OPS, 20 home runs, and 60 RBIs while hitting.250. In 11 postseason games that year, he hit.385 with five home runs and nine RBIs.
But Hernández struggled with ailments for a large portion of the 2022 campaign, which affected his play. Last year, he hit.222 with six home runs and a.629 OPS.
Hernández, who had recently been an outfield player, was attempted at shortstop by Boston to start the 2023 season. His 14 blunders in 64 games at the position proved that the experiment was a failure.
This season, he is hitting.222 once more, but in 86 games, he has six home runs and a.599 OPS. Hernández seemed to be the odd man out as the Red Sox called up Pablo Reyes on Monday, and Trevor Story is probably going to make a comeback in the coming weeks.
The Dodgers, on the other hand, reportedly desired a reunion with Hernández because of his defensive versatility and postseason experience, and they were searching for a right-handed hitter to aid against left-handed pitching.
