Having said that, we will not be spending $30 million on a player at this time.

Joe Pohlad, the CEO of the Boras Four, has shot down supporters’ hopes that their team would be the one to go all out after one of the Boras Four.

We’re not in the market for those players that are out there right now, who, undoubtedly, a bunch of people are talking about, Pohlad stated on WCCO radio on Tuesday afternoon. “But [president of baseball operations Derek Falvey] is undoubtedly looking at other players who can have a great impact on our team.

A lot of fans have been wondering if their team will sign one of the top free agents still available, who are all clients of super agent Scott Boras, while players from all around the league reported to spring training over the past week.

The Boras Four have gained recognition throughout the league: center fielder/first baseman Cody Bellinger, left-handed pitchers Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery, and third baseman Matt Chapman.

Pohlad responded that the Twins are “going to live where we’re at right now” when asked if the organization could add a final big-name free agent.

Despite winning their first postseason series in more than 20 years last season, the Twins made headlines this winter by attempting to trim expenses after a record-high payroll in 2023. This move was likely caused by the absence of a TV rights broadcast arrangement until recently.

In reference to reducing payroll in the summer, Pohlad stated, “I think in today’s game you can see there are a number of different ways to win.” “You can observe that by having smaller payrolls, the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays produce highly successful goods on the field while simultaneously making investments in other facets of the business. That’s what we’re now doing. Without a doubt, the television situation is affecting our business, but we’re merely attempting to scale it appropriately. That also has a role in it.”

The Twins are just one of several teams in North American sports whose television contract is under scrutiny following Diamond Sports Group’s bankruptcy filing last year. The Bally Sports Regional Network, which broadcasts numerous NBA, NHL, and MLB games across the nation, including Twins games, is owned by Diamond Sports Group.

Following a protracted legal battle, Minnesota’s television contract with Bally Sports North was terminated at the end of the 2023 campaign. Nevertheless, in early February, the Twins and BSN reached a one-year agreement that will keep the team’s games on Bally broadcasts through 2024.

In regards to some flexibility, Pohlad said, “We don’t live hard and fast by a precise figure when Derek (Falvey) and his team think there is the perfect opportunity in front of us.” Having said that, we won’t be spending $30 million on a player just yet.
