Anthony DeSclafani, starting pitcher for the Minnesota Twins, February 22, 2024, Lee County, Florida, USA Anthony DeSclafani, starting pitcher for the Minnesota TwinsRight-hander Anthony DeSclafani of the Minnesota Twins will miss the whole 2024 season after undergoing surgery to repair his forearm flexor tendon.
DeSclafani, who was anticipated to start at the end of the Minnesota rotation, was put on the 60-day injured list on Thursday ahead of the regular season after being diagnosed with a right elbow strain in mid-March.
DeSclafani’s estimated 13-month recovery period means he won’t be back for the opening of the 2025 campaign.
A second injury will keep Minnesota Twins power hitter out for at least a month.

With a quad injury, Royce Lewis left for the Minnesota Twins on Opening Day and is anticipated to be out for more than a month.

Lewis’s significant quad strain will keep him out of the game for more than a month. He will require some downtime before he can be strengthened again.

Derek Falvey reports that Royce Lewis is experiencing a “serious quad strain.” Before the Twins can even begin to gauge how much more healing he will require at that time before beginning his ascent back into the lineup, he will require a month of pure recuperation.

After just one game, infielder Royce Lewis of the Minnesota Twins is going to be placed on the disabled list, which is another painful blow. He had to leave the Opening Day game early on Thursday due to a quadriceps problem.

Austin Martin has been called up to replace Royce Lewis, who is anticipated to fly to Illinois today. More information is anticipated later this morning.

Lewis, assuming he can remain on the field, should be a key component of the Twins’ offense this season. He went 2-for-2 with a home run and a single in the first game.

The 24-year-old Californian, who was once considered a great talent, has only appeared in 71 career games since making his debut in 2022. In 2022, he only made 12 appearances, and in 2023, 58.

According to MLB.com, Martin is the organization’s No. 15 prospect. This is a sample of his prospect profile on MLB.com:

Martin has been working with coaching staffs to push the ball more from the beginning, but no changes have ever stuck.

He does, however, possess amazing bat-to-ball ability; as of 2024, the right-handed hitter had struck out in just 16.5% of his plate attempts.
He can spray the ball to all fields, draw walks, and, to his credit, once he recovered from the elbow injury sustained in the middle of the season last year, he did hit the ball on the ground less. He also had a strong August, in which he drove the ball more consistently.
