The two players with the oldest contracts, outfielder Max Kepler and infielder Jorge Polanco, had their 2024 club options exercised by the Minnesota Twins on Thursday.
For the upcoming season, Polanco will earn $10.5 million and Kepler $10 million. Although both players had a $1 million buyout, Minnesota considered those prices to be a good deal given their level of output this season.
As the Twins’ regular right fielder in 130 games in 2023, Kepler batted.260 with an.816 OPS and a team-high 24 home runs.
After recovering from a knee ailment, Polanco played second base and third base in 80 games this season, hitting.255 with 14 home runs and a.789 OPS. In his ten major league seasons, he has hit the most home runs (112) of any switch-hitter in Twins history.
Polanco has a $12.5 million club option with the Twins until 2025.
