With Opening Day quickly approaching, all eyes will be on the future this week as MLB Pipeline’s revised list of each team’s top prospects is released.
The official look at each team’s Top 30 players in the farm system is the cherry on top of lists of the best prospects at every position that have been released all winter long.
Two of the Twins’ Top 5 prospects in 2022 were Joe Ryan and Royce Lewis, who have since established themselves as important members of the MLB squad.
We are reminded of how bright the future is by this year’s list. The number one player on the list is Walker Jenkins; however, he is followed in the Top 100 rankings in all of baseball by three additional prospects.
The Top 30 Minnesota Twins prospects for 2024 are revealed by MLB Pipeline.
The Twins’ top prospects have long been known, so there aren’t many surprises at the top of the list. Brooks Lee is one name that is probably making its final appearance on this list; he is anticipated to be called up at some point during the season.
Should all go according to plan, Lee will be a member of the MLB roster just like Royce Lewis and Edouard Julien were the previous year.
David Festa is on the verge of falling into the same group. Even though he hasn’t made his debut yet, a lot of people have considered him a young pitcher who could emulate Bailey Ober and Louie Varland.
Minnesota’s future is quite promising, aside from Lee and Festa, who are receiving some decent facetime at Spring Training.
While the Top 5 players have received a lot of attention, Twins supporters would be well advised to get to know players like Marco Raya and Charlee Soto, who are positioned to make significant contributions in the third wave of the youth movement.
Last year, Soto was a top pick in the draft and gained popularity the moment he began shedding tears of happiness upon being selected by the Twins.
Though he has the longest timeline of any of the team’s top prospects, it’s noteworthy that, despite having played so little yet, he’s already in the running to be a Top 5 player.
In that sense, C.J. Culpepper is comparable—he’s another hard-throwing pitching prospect who will eventually earn a spot in the bullpen. That will still be a few years off, and he won’t be beating out Festa or Raya, but he’s a player to watch.
A further perspective on this is the Twins farm system’s prospective trade value. Nearly immediately after being touted as part of Jorge Polanco’s return, Gabriel Gonzalez was discussed as a trade asset, and he may still be able to sweeten a deal for a quality player.
Minnesota is in a great position because it doesn’t have to give up on any of its prospects and can have a youthful, highly skilled team for the remainder of the decade. It will take time to see how things work out in the end, but beyond the optimism this MLB season offers, the future undoubtedly seems tremendously bright.
