Key bullpen injury updates are received by the Twins. The Minnesota Twins were being tormented by injuries even before the season began.
Before Opening Day arrived, Jhoan Duran, Caleb Thielbar, and Justin Topa all went on the disabled list, which put Minnesota’s bullpen depth to the test straight immediately.
Fortunately, the unit has not only survived but flourished during the absence of three essential weapons, which bodes well for the situation whenever they return.
Everyone is interested in knowing the precise timing for each pitcher’s comeback, and it appears that we are coming closer to finding the answer to that important question. With effect from March 26th, all pitchers who began the season on the 10-day IL are eligible to return on April 8.
Although it doesn’t seem like anyone will return on that specific date, it could not be too long until we witness their gradual reintegration into the bullpen.
Justin Topa, Caleb Thielbar, and Jhoan Duran receive important injury information for the Twins.
Even though none of the three relivers will be present in the upcoming series against the Dodgers, it seems as though they will all be returning. Derek Falvey mentioned after the team’s home opener that Thielbar is the player who is closest to making a comeback.
The most reliable indication that he will be the first pitcher back is that he threw live batting practice. It sounds like he will receive a rehab assignment at St. Paul this week, but he did not appear during Spring Training, which could cause his timeline to slip.
Regarding Duran and Topa, the Thursday updates were not very encouraging, but things are moving in the right way.
According to reports, Topa was playing catch without any pain, while Duran claims to no longer experience any when throwing. Topa and Duran both threw far, reaching distances of 75 and 105 feet, respectively, although they haven’t yet begun to pitch off the mound.
Although nobody is expected to be added to the 26-man roster, everyone is eligible to return from the injured list the following week. The good news is that the Twins bullpen, which is only slightly behind the Detroit Tigers as the best team in the league, is off to a fantastic start.
Without three essential relievers, it was unclear how things would pan out, but as Rocco Badelli noted, the proper men are stepping up. The bullpen for Minnesota boasts a 1.09 ERA and 0.890 WHIP, and as long as Duran, Thielbar, and Topa stay healthy, it should only get stronger.
